Innovative textiles and fashions for the future
The Lille Region is reinventing itself as the modern textile center of Europe. In October 2012 CETI, the new European Centre for Innovative Textiles was officially inaugurated in Tourcoing. This multi-sector technology platform is dedicated to research and innovation in textile materials in such diverse areas as healthcare, transport, construction, sports, fire fighting, space exploration…..
Textile technologies provide creative solutions for the 21st century economy. CETI associates science and technique to take the industry ‘one step ahead’, says founder André Beirnaert. CETI is the most advanced and innovative centre of its kind in the world bringing together key actors in the sector: research institutes, university laboratories, private enterprise…..
Nurturing new fashion talent
In parallel to this exciting innovation, the Lille Region has a flourishing fashion scene. The Maison de Mode in Roubaix is a good example where young creative talents come together in their workshops and boutiques, at the same time breathing new life into this former industrial neighbourhood.
One of Maison de Mode’s rising stars is Clivia Nobilli, a young designer with her own label who has just completed her 12th collection, inspired by the workplace, which is now on show in boutiques, not just in France but in Japan, the US and UK. In 2011 she did a re-look of the uniforms for 20,000 check-out staff at the Auchan supermarket chain.
