Caroline Carlson is an international dance star and creator of some 70 ballets. This American with finnish roots is still creating, reinventing herself and finding new inspiration….here in northern France. And at the same time she’s reinventing contemporary dance.
“I am 300% into creativity. I will never stop”
Her career spans four decades of creativity and she continues to create her own solos, from Density 21.5 to Writings on Water. This star choreographer from the Paris Opera has already gained her place in dance history, but that hasn’t stopped her.
“The people here inspire me. Their energy is so positive”
She came to the north in 2004 as director of the Roubaix Choreographic Centre and found a veritable mine of inspiration. Despite these new roots, she continues to dance around the world in New York, Paris, Venice, Helsinski…
“The public here is very open. They enjoy being surprised”
She has danced at the Palais des Beaux Arts and the Lille Opera with both professionals and amateurs from the city. Currently, she is developing new programmes, Mappa Mundi and Dancewindows to make people in the region more aware of contemporary dance.
