Lille has been chosen as the next location for Mama Shelter Hotels, a unique concept in affordable accommodation. With locations already operating in Paris, Lyon, Marseille and Bordeaux, the Lille opening is scheduled for 2017.
This original, creative project is expected to revitalize the Euralille and train station neighborhoods while contributing to the growth of metropolitan Lille. SPL Euralille, in charge of the development of Euralille, on behalf of Lille Métropole, has chosen to entrust Nacarat with the implementation of the housing program Souham 4, which is located between Euralille and Old Lille. “The project will take advantage of its location to re-establish a dynamic link between Euralille, the stations, the shopping center, Matisse Park and Old Lille. The idea is to create a high walkway along the historic fortifications overlooking the Matisse Park. A commercial program, the surrounding cafes and restaurants will bring life to the walkway. This project will also mark the entrance to the city centre with a strong architectural design and an innovative hotel program“, according to SPL Euralille.
The unique positioning of Mama Shelter, born of the alliance between the Trigano family (of Club Med fame) and the designer Philippe Starck, will offer a place that’s warm, unusual, quirky and enticing. “The Mama is a concept – it’s like people meeting each other in family households, each a bit different. It’s a place where everyone lives, takes shelter. Mama Shelter is proud to settle in at Lille, to write a new chapter in its history and infuse it with a mix of new influences; and also participate in promoting its vital economic and cultural capital while soaking up the legendary warmth of the northern French locals“, declares the hotel.
The opening of Hotel Clarance, a 5-star boutique hotel in the heart of Old Lille in early April 2015, along with the arrival of Mama Shelter in Euralille in 2017, under the direction of local architect Jerome Alzua, mark an expansion of high quality accommodation available for tourism in Lille and the region.
